Well, you are 70% right that JK looks (my estimation) miserable in his talks. But there are 10% of talks where he looks terribly alive. And in all of them usually you find, maybe just a minute sometimes, where he is totally, fascinatingly, alive, what is a sheer wonder to me and other people.

And then he tells jokes too once in a while in his talks, or even makes fun. The more videos they uploaded on youtube, the more one can see such moments.

If you saw just a few of his talks, your judgement is appropriate, but not if you know a lot of them.

I am still thinking to make a list, where he is lightening up in his videos, to make maybe a video of it.

My advice, don't make a judgement easily on K.
